DANCEWORLD School of Modern, Jazz & Ballet was started as a hobby 19 years ago spearheaded by Sureka Gunawardena Buell as the first school in Sri Lanka to offer the jazz dance curriculum. Our purpose is to foster the passion for dance as a way of sharing the experience in the movement and creativity of dance.

DANCEWORLD SCHOOL (DWS) offers classes to dancers from a variety of ages creating movements and steps through a range of styles from Jazz, Modern, Contemporary and Ballet. Students at DWS train throughout the year, performing to many genres of music and pushing through boundaries of progressions, while maintaining strict discipline within the principles of dance and expression. The ultimate goal of DWS is to instill in each dancer a sense of self-confidence, discipline and commitment - lessons, which lead well outside the studio.
School & Academy
From the very first class to their final performance on stage, every dancer is equipped with “life lessons” that carry a profound message of strength, teamwork and dedication.
Consisting of an age range from 2 years and above, in 12 categories of classes, DWS aims to develop each dancer to achieve new heights of experience and expand each dancer to reach their highest potential through an online platform and in person classes in our newly built state-of-the-art studio.
Under the dedicated instruction of Sureka and a diverse team of talented teachers, every student continues to grow each year in all forms of dance, extended further to train in African Jazz, Street Jazz, Lyrical Jazz and excel in their ability to outperform themselves with every recital and showcase.
